The Smile We Needed

The Smile We Needed
When a loved one gets sick it is never easy, especially when the illness takes a turn for the worse. When that happened to my mother, whom I cared for, I knew we needed more help than I could provide. Her doctor suggested hospice so we contacted Community Hospice. I didn’t know what to expect and was nervous about letting a team of strangers in the house. However, when they arrived it felt like they were members of our family. They treated mother like she was their very own. Every member of the team was kind, gentle and treated mother and the rest of our family with respect and dignity. They knew it was a fragile time for us all and did everything they could to make us comfortable.

The Community Hospice team did the small things for mother that were important to her. She always took pride in her appearance and the CNA picked up on that right away. She would paint mothers nails and find the purse to match her outfit. Laughing was something mother enjoyed doing right up until the end. The social worker and nurse would always come armed with jokes to bring that smile to mother’s face that we so desperately needed.

Hospice helped put us at ease. We always felt they were just a call away and it was comforting to know a team of people that cared so deeply was there to support us. We will forever be thankful for the Community Hospice team.

Thank you, Community Hospice.
